Plans for Rusholme’s Eid celebrations
Police in Manchester are preparing for visitors to come to the city to celebrate the Muslim religious holiday, Eid-ul-Adha.
The festival, which marks the holy pilgrimage of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca will be celebrated between 25 and 26 October 2012. The religious holiday is an opportunity for Muslims to thank god for the blessings they have received.
Each year the Rusholme area of Manchester attracts thousands of people into the city who visit as part of the festivities. Greater Manchester Police will play their part to ensure the communities and those visiting are kept safe and that there is minimal traffic disruption to the area.
The Force has been working with the support of the Rusholme Traders Association, the Council of Mosques and Manchester City Council to ensure safe and trouble-free celebrations.
During the course of the two-day event officers will increase patrols in the area and will have a visible presence along the Wilmslow Road corridor and surrounding area. Any reports of crime, antisocial behaviour and public disorder will be responded to by police. Those concerned over traffic and the number of vehicles in and around the surrounding area is asked to contact Manchester City Council direct.
Superintendent Serena Kennedy for the South Manchester Division, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Muslim community ‘Eid Mubarak’ and can I also appeal to those visiting the area to enjoy the festivities in the most peaceful and responsible way. This is a joyous occasion and celebrations should reflect this. Anyone wishing to bring or cause problems is asked to stay away.
“During the recent Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in August our officers arrested 15 people for offences such as possession of cannabis, breaching direction to leave notices and drink driving. While we don’t wish to cause anyone any alarm our patrols will be increased in the main Wilmslow Road area to ensure everyone can enjoy the occasion. Any crime or antisocial behaviour will be dealt with swiftly so that there is minimal disruption to the community.
“Eid is an important date in the Muslim calendar and we are extremely proud that Rusholme is a focal point for Muslim communities throughout the UK. This festival traditionally attracts a large amount of visitors to Manchester and they will be given a warm welcome.”
Councillor Bernard Priest, Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services,
said: “Rusholme is an important focal point for members of Greater Manchester’s Muslim community and we’re working closely with police, businesses and members of the community to make sure the celebrations remain safe and trouble-free.”

The restaurants of Rusholme’s famous ‘Curry Mile’ will remain open during Eid. Car parks are located behind the Shere Khan restaurant (off Walmer Street), on Thurloe Street and Hathersage Road.
There will be no parking on Wilmslow Road (from Hathersage Road to Wilbraham Road) at the following times:
6pm Thursday 25 October – 6am Friday 26 October 2012
6pm Friday 26 October – 6am Saturday 27 October 2012
This is the time for Nationalists to come out in their thousands and to show these Muslims that they are NOT welcome here.
For 3 days over Eid, Muslims slaughter animals, so does this mean animals are going to be slaughtered on the streets of Manchester? i wouldn't put it past them because Muslims have no morals at all. All Muslims think about is Murder. Rape and child molesting, so to kill an animal means nothing at all, and they don't care less who's watching or where they do the kill.
If only 3 or 4 hundred Nationalists turn out, they will be a laughing stock, but if 3 or 4 thousand turn out, or more, then what a fantastic presence that will be.
The soldiers who fought and died for our country in the 2 world wars, would be turning in their graves if they knew what our once great country has been turned in to.
We don't want thousands of Muslims on our streets, we don't want any Muslims at all, they are ALL terrorists and they want to turn Great Britain in to an Islamic state, and it must be stopped. They can shove Eid where the sun don't shine, along with their Rama Dama Ding Dong.
