UK Muslim’s Facebook post: “All soldiers should die & go to Hell! The lowlife fuckin scum! Gotta problem? Go cry at your soldiers grave and wish him Hell because that’s where he is going.”

A 20-year-old British girl, Amy Wilby, who posted offensive comments in response to Azhar Ahmed’s Facebook derogatory rant which maligned dead British soldiers, has been sentenced by a court and told she can’t hide behind the ‘virtual world’ of the internet.

Amy Wilby, 20, admitting posting grossly offensive messages on the social networking site, when she appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in Huddersfield. (Several other people posted equally offensive messages against Ahmed on Facebook, but none of them were arrested)

The 20-year-old was given a two-year community service sentence for remarks that a judge found to be “derogatory, disrespectful and inflammatory.”

The content is too extreme to print in a newspaper. In one she made a vile sexual statement regarding Ahmed and his religion. (“Fuck Allah,” no doubt) One statement that can be printed read: “I wasn’t racist until I read this.”

Her comments were made in response to Azhar Ahmed’s rant that “all soldiers should die and go to hell”, made two days after the deaths of six British soldiers in Afghanistan, who were killed when their vehicle hit a Taliban roadside bomb. Corporal Jake Hartley, 20, of New Mill, Private Anton Frampton, 20, of Longwood and Private Daniel Wilford, 21, of Cowlersley, were among the soldiers killed in the blast.

Wilby’s comments got her slapped with a community  service order after District Judge Marie Mallon told her that she could not hide behind a “virtual world” when airing her views. Wilby, of Gladstone Court in Dewsbury, was a teenager when she made the comments on her personal profile page on March 9.

Judge Mallon was told that following these messages police tracked Wilby down and looked at her phone. Wilby, who had no previous convictions, also lost her job as a result of the proceedings against her. Simon Lindley, mitigating, described his client as “deeply upset and remorseful” for her actions. He said: “She didn’t set up the site, it was something she saw and she was upset.

“She’s got drawn into it. She’s seen all these other people making comments and has unfortunately done the same. “She didn’t step back and think of what she was doing – she’s deeply remorseful.” Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said that following Ahmed’s comments numerous other people posted angry responses on Facebook. Many were cautioned but police decided to charge only Wilby.

Judge Mallon told Wilby that she had considered the fact that Ahmed had “set this whole train running” and he had received a community-based punishment. She said that her case should act as a caution to others airing their views online. “It’s got to become apparent to people who use Facebook that it isn’t only this virtual world, it’s in the real world and it has consequences.”

HBN  The Mother of a soldier killed in Afghanistan has slammed the sentence given to Azhar Ahmed for abusive comments on Facebook. Azhar Ahmed, 20, of Fir Avenue, Ravensthorpe, was handed a two-year community order with 240 hours unpaid work plus £300 court costs.

Nathalie Taylor, 40, said Azhar Ahmed should have been jailed for remarks made only days after her son, Earlsheaton-born Cpl Jake Hartley, was killed.

Mrs Taylor said after sentencing at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in Huddersfield: “He should’ve been sent to jail, they should’ve made an example of him. “It’s easy to sit behind a computer writing whatever you please when there are soldiers fighting for the freedom on speech these people hide behind. “My son gave his life for this country and then in such a short time Ahmed has completely disrespected his memory and those of his fellow soldiers.”

The sentence was also met with cries of “disgusting” from protesters in the public gallery, some of whom stormed out after the verdict. One man was arrested by police for shouting abuse at district judge Jane Goodwin as he exited the public gallery.
